Jump’s fourth annual beach clean took place on September 7, 2024, resulting in 13 (15 if you include dogs!) of our UK-wide team meeting at Sand Bay, Weston-Super-Mare. Giving back to our planet and our community is a key part of our ethos; and we’re not afraid to get our hands dirty, so we dedicated a day to cleaning up this beautiful coastline.

Armed with bin bags and litter pickers, we spent the cloudy yet warm morning collecting plastic from the tideline, discarded carpentry materials from the dunes, and plenty of cans and bottles scattered around the beach.

With the dogs running around looking for their own treasures in the form of tennis balls and sticks, our team walked along the beach, spread out across the tideline to the dunes. Despite the beach looking generally clean at first glance, the seaweed marking the tideline was filled with plastic wrappers, bottle caps and tangled up cable ties, so we set to work digging through the seaweed and removing all the litter that we could see.

Our beach cleans are a hands-on way for us to help marine conservation efforts and restore the natural beauty of our surroundings. Access to clean outdoor spaces will hopefully inspire people to get out there and enjoy their local nature, and encourage others to volunteer some of their own time to help preserve even more of our planet for future generations.

At Jump, we don’t believe in surface-level sustainability. Our efforts go beyond recycling waste and using sustainable processes, they’re rooted in every team member’s conscience. Each of our team members volunteers at least 20 hours per year to a variety of causes.

Bringing our team together while giving back makes our volunteer efforts even more rewarding. Following a successful couple of hours cleaning the beach, we headed into Weston-Super-Mare itself for a delicious team lunch - you can’t go to the beach without having fish and chips!

Many laughs (and some fun in the pier’s arcade) later, and our team headed back home, tired after a fulfilling day of cleaning up and team bonding.

This beach clean was just one step in our ongoing journey to make a meaningful difference both in and outside the office. We plan to host our fifth annual beach clean next year, and continue to contribute to our planet, community and team. Stay tuned to keep up to date, and follow us on social media for frequent updates.
